With these changes, which play into the hands of the affected authorities, there is a risk that other provisions in the law will also be reworded in such a way that requests come to nothing. This undermines transparency and, as a result, people’s trust in public administration and politics.

Now, according to Netzpolitik.org, Brandenburg also intends to restrict its citizens’ access to information. Especially with the September elections approaching, there couldn’t be a worse time for this.

In Brandenburg, the focus is on the Act on Access to Files and Information (AIG). A draft amendment is currently being worked on. Back in March, Berlin had already passed a law allowing authorities to reject requests across the board.
