Use free and open-source software!

We’ve reported on the benefits of open-source software countless times. Whether you work on Windows, Mac, or Linux operating systems, free software is available for all of them. This allows you to free yourself from expensive software—such as that from Microsoft, Adobe, and other providers — and the potential interference of U.S. government agencies.

Recently, another trick has emerged that you should never fall for. You no longer buy the software — which should actually become your property — but instead, subscriptions, mandatory cloud services, and unsolicited AI features are bundled into the offer, none of which anyone needs. This makes you dependent on these providers in the long run.
