07.05.2018 PM: Forderungskatalog zum "Projekt Sicherheitsbahnhof Berlin Südkreuz" übergeben

Aktion Freiheit statt Angst calls for transparency in the video surveillance pilot project Südkreuz

The pilot project "Project Safety Station Berlin Südkreuz" of the Department of the Interior, the German Railways and the Federal Criminal Police Office has been running since 1 August 2017.The project was extended for half a year in February. In addition, a second phase is planned and a submission of the project by the Federal Department of the Interior, the Federal Police and the Federal Criminal Police Office to the Deutsche Bahn has been announced.

Even at the beginning of the project various civil society organizations not only identified a lack of transparency, but also got partly erroneous, always inadequate and sometimes no answers at all to questions and concerns about project design, the data protection concept, concrete implementation and objectives. [1]

In the case of submission of the project to Deutsche Bahn, even more intransparency can be expected due to the private-law corporate structures.

Aktion Freiheit statt Angst had already protested to the project start on August 1st 2017 with a protest rally in front of the station against the introduction of video surveillance (and thus possible prosecution) and named various fundamental rights problems. [2] Also on November 27th 2017 we protested together with various civil society groups against the project. [3]

Aktion Freiheit statt Angst has in the recent months gathered complaints about the pilot project and in discussions with other groups we have compiled a catalog of questions and demands. Today we sent them to those responsible for the project and other participants. [4]

With this catalog, we ask our questions about the continuous transparency of research projects in general and make demands to protect people from possible illegal activities using personal data.

  • Authorities, ministries and government should not steal their responsibility towards the public!
  • We see in the project a massive invasion of the privacy of all concerned and a violation of our fundamental rights.
  • We are finally waiting for detailed information on the already frequently asked open questions.

Aktion Freiheit statt Angst e.V.         Berlin, May 7th 2018
