Petition to Council of Europe on government use of citizens biometrics

Aktion Freiheit statt Angst e.V. has signed a petition to the Council of Europe on government use of citiziens biometrics together with the alliance 'Hands off biometrics' and Privacy International.

The text of the petition:

Petition on Collection and Storage of Biometric Data

We urgently ask the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to send an art. 52 ECHR request to the Member states involved, regarding storage of biometric data of citizens in passports, ID cards and government database(s) in view of the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Under an article 52 investigation ECHR Member states have to answer to subjects like proportionality, subsidiarity, effectiveness, function creep, safety measures and 'accordance with the law'.
